Pathway to Successful learning

At Sir Keith Park School each student is a unique learner.

Our School Curriculum focuses on supporting each student to develop the skills they need to be an effective communicator, as independent as possible throughout their lives, and to reach their potential in all areas.

The Pathway To Successful Learning (PTSL) Process:

Pathway to Successful Learning involves:

  • Entry into school

  • Movement between classes

  • Graduation to post-school life

We have a checkpoint process at key stages along the student’s learning journey.   At Sir Keith Park School we want to make the checkpoints for you and your child a positive experience.

Our Pathway to Successful Learning is designed to support quality

  • Parent/Whanau engagement

  • Transdisciplinary practice

  • Assessment for learning

  • Prioritisation of learning

We believe that a respectful partnership between the family and the school  is  essential for  successful learning to occur.

Checkpoint Meetings:

An ‘All about …’ or ‘More About…’ family and staff meeting is held at each checkpoint.

This transdisciplinary meeting involves Parents/Whanau or Carers and student, Class Teacher, therapists, and Syndicate Leader.

The focus of the meeting is for parent(s) to share information with the school about their child, helping to build a profile of their child, and then by sharing expectations, hopes & dreams for their child’s education. Initial long term goals are identified from the meeting.

Transdisciplinary Assessment:

Each member of the professional team, including the teacher, therapists and specialists, where appropriate, carries out assessments on all aspects of the student’s functioning and enters the information into the Priority Indicator booklet.

Transdisciplinary  Discussion:

The therapy team, syndicate leader and the class teacher meet to review the assessment information in the Priority Indicator booklet.  Every area of learning is discussed, and priorities determined.

Long Term Goals:

Long term goals are generated in up to 3 key areas of learning.  These goals guide the student’s priority learning in their Individual Education Plans for the next 3-4 years.

I.L.P

The Individual Learning Education Plan (I.L.P) is a plan which identifies priority learning needs for individual students. It outlines the student's learning goals for a specific period of time.

The plan also describes the teaching strategies, resources and specialist support required to enable the student to meet those goals.

This plan is developed from a transdisciplinary meeting between parents/caregivers, the learner's teacher, the learner (who is encouraged to participate) and specialists as appropriate. The aim is to identify current strengths, to set short term goals together for the learner, and share their learning progress.

The I.L.P is reviewed 6 monthly or earlier if appropriate, with transdisciplinary input. Parents/caregivers  receive a copy of the I.E.P. and the subsequent reviews.
